I make the patch look like embroidery by using a foot that has two grooves in it. (it's my buttonhole foot) I just zig zag stitch over the yarn, in the same colour.

The waist has a hidden 1/4" wide elastic at the top under the fold. You cannot see it. The belt loops hold the foled facing in place. This is a pull-on skirt and is great for bike riding.

It's like have a wool blanket around your butt.
